Croatia is\ninterested in collaborating with Smart Textiles and wants to know more about\nthe successful triple helix model \u2013 the collaboration between academia,\nindustry and government \u2013 that characterizes Smart Textiles and its innovation\nenvironment.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is why Nils-Krister\nPersson, associate professor and head of research at Smart Textiles, was\ninvited to a two-day meeting in Varazdin in northeastern Croatia, where he met\nwith the city\u2019s mayor, Ivan Cehok, Swedish Ambassador Diana Madunic and about\n30 invited guests, who all wanted to take note of Smart Textile\u2019s success\nstory. Varazdin is a city with a textile industry, and the program included a\nfactory visit. Jonas Widerstr\u00f6m, international business coordinator for the\nCity of Bor\u00e5s, was also on the trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeople were very\ninterested and impressed with our collaboration among industry, academia and\nthe public sector, and the projects we conduct together,\u201d Nils-Krister Persson\nsays. \u201cThey especially wanted to know how we built up structures and networks\nfor our environment with the university, available machinery, the Bor\u00e5s region\nand Vinnova.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Persson continues: \u201cI told\nabout our experiences and gave examples of some projects, such as the\nWaterweave water purification project, where we remove heavy metals from\nemissions with textiles and fungi. I talked about the Suitceyes project and the\nMollii suit, a unique garment and tool for people with spasticity, reduced\nmobility and involuntary tremors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two intensive days<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Summarizing two intense\ndays with great interest in Smart Textiles, he concludes that the triple helix\nmodel has come considerably farther in Sweden than in Croatia.
\n
\n\u201cHere we have three worlds that clearly have been adapted to each other,\ncreating power for innovation. We know that nothing happens without the\ninvolvement of the private sector and support from the public sector. That is\ncrucial to success, which was also the subject of the panel discussion in which\nI participated. Croatia still is rooted in textiles as clothing and\nconsequently wants to work with us to expand the field to include other\nthings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No agreement on formal\ncooperation has been signed, but the meeting was a way for our countries to\nmeet and exchange experiences, and for Smart Textiles, these efforts align well\nwith the strategy of becoming increasingly international.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
