ST 164 – Soft load-bearing structures in textile materials for implantation in the human body. Part 2.

Company: Ortoma AB

Ortoma develop a concept that enables personalized orthopedic implants and treatment methods in orthopedics. Ortomas method is much less invasive than current treatments and the implant are adapted to each patient’s unique anatomy. The technology is expected to shorten convalescence time and reduce post-surgical complications. Ortomas concept includes a software system, patient-adapted disks and surgical tools that facilitate the implementation of the implants. In this project Ortoma, in cooperation with Smart Textile Borås and Orthopaedics at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, aims to develop an artificial disc that can imitate natural disks behaviors. The project also aims to identify the materials and production methods that may be suitable for producing such disk prosthesis.
