Smart Textiles – for a better world through textile innovation

Smart Textiles will be a leading international player in the next generation of textiles

In our vision, we see the Sjuhärad region as an internationally leading and living centre for development, design and specialised production of the next generation of high-technological textiles. We view Smart Textiles as a leading centre for research, development and production of smart textiles and portable textile technology where advanced textile technology, sensor technology, computer technology and various forms of advanced material technology are integrated. Through Smart Textiles, Sweden will establish a world-leading position concerning the integration of sustainable development into all development and production of textiles.

Business Concept

Smart Textiles is the driving force for textile innovation with a unique breadth – from basic research and prototypes to the commercialisation of products. We create results in partnership with academia, business, research institutes and policy-makers.

By the end of 2016, the Smart Textiles Initiative is to have contributed to:

  • The start of 35 new companies
  • The creation of 2000 new, knowledge-intensive jobs
  • The development of 80 prototypes in collaboration with external partners
  • Initiating 50 international research collaborations

  • “I knew this would be an exciting position and I wanted to contribute to new products reaching the market because it would create jobs when Swedish businesses grew and prospered”
